Annoying

Barbara Ehrenreich invalidated her whole Nickel and Dimed experiment for me by refusing to have a roommate. I, too, have worked as a maid, but I sure as hell didn't expect to afford my own apartment on those wages.

I rented rooms on my cleaning woman's wages, not apartments. Those were a dream! Eventually, I got a roommate situation, but only after I went to work at a newspaper.

There are places in NYC where domestics have to do bed-sharing in order just to live where they can work. They would probably find my private rented rooms palatial!

The point is that it's extremely tough to get by on your own two feet at minimum wage. If someone else is helping you, of course it is easier... but with no help, it's tough out there.
